WARNING

If you are running Windows XP read this: It’s important.

Until further notice, please do not press the F1 Key when you are on a web site even if instructed to by the web site.  Pressing F1 could cause malware to be loaded onto your PC.

“Microsoft told Windows XP users yesterday not to press the F1 key when prompted by a Web site, as part of its reaction to an un-patched vulnerability that hackers could exploit to hijack PCs running Internet Explorer (IE).   Until a patch is ready, users should protect themselves by not pressing the F1 key if a Web site tells them to, said Microsoft.”

"As an interim workaround, users are advised to avoid pressing F1 on dialogs presented from Web pages or other Internet content," said David Ross with the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) engineering staff.  "The prompt can appear repeatedly when dismissed, nagging the user to press the F1 key," Ross added.

The Microsoft security advisory made the same recommendation: "Our analysis shows that if users do not press the F1 key on their keyboard, the vulnerability cannot be exploited."

Each year student.org's use is monitored by an independent group. Here are the figures for the year ending September 15, 2009

Visits for the year - 142,395 (down from 161.623 last year)
College Directory was accessed - surprisingly 199,880 up again from 122,115 last year. I had anticipated both visits to the site and to the directory to be down since the NCM site was operative.

off site Because of the frequent problems campus ministers face when a student who handles their website leaves I suggest you look into CollegeMinistry Link by LifeWay 04/08/05
Presentation Because of the heavy response to this presentation it is being placed here for continued reference. PowerPoint presentation on "Understanding Millennials" by Joe Graham - State BSU Director for Georgia 02/14/05
file cabinets I have just received permission to reprint an article by Judith Kallos (http://www.OnlineNetiquette.com) concerning copyright limitations. It is the clearest succinct article I have found and is certainly worth your time to read. It will remain in the file cabinets for your future reference when dealing with others on this topic. 11/24/04

Campus minister's office A new section is being started in the campus minister's office called helps from the past. For some of you it will be a major help. For others you will quickly see it is really not for you. Check it out and you decide. Maybe you know some struggling volunteer or church college minister that it will help. 07/15/04
International office You have worked with a particular International student for a long time. Now they are returning to their country. What better way to show your continuing care than to have a missionary contact them when they get home. IMB makes it really easy. Just send the information on how the person can be contacted to Mike Lopez mlopez-at-imb.org (Substitute @ for the -at-). He will handle it from there. 07/12/04

Spammers occasionally fake student.org email addresses. At present the only legitimate email address from The "Cyber" Student Center will have a return address of houston-at-student.org (Substitute @ for the -at-) and will include in the first line your first name or the nick name you gave to The "Cyber" Student Center. 1/20/04
Legal office Some have questioned recently whether contact information listed on this site is considered public information for use in mass contacts of campus ministers. I believe the detailed answer to this is clearly stated in the legal office, but the short answer is NO! 07/23/03
